The Aesthetic Foundation Mission
“The Mission of the Foundation is to identify and pursue those issues relevant to advancing the safety and effectiveness of aesthetic medicine through independent, unbiased, directed research and groundbreaking education.”
For over thirty years, the Aesthetic Foundation has supported ground-breaking research and educational initiatives increasing awareness, safety, and education in the fields of aesthetic and reconstructive surgery.
The Aesthetic Foundation, formally known as the Aesthetic Surgery Education and Research Foundation (ASERF) was founded in 1993. Working alongside the Aesthetic Society, the goal of the Foundation is to raise the funds necessary to support research and education on topics of immediate significance to aesthetic surgeons, their patients, the FDA, and industry.
Dr. Glicksman’s Journey
Dr. Glicksman’s interest in clinical and laboratory research began at the age of 17 with her first position as a laboratory assistant in the Department of Infectious Diseases at Brown University. Her first publication was in the Journal of Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy in 1977. The following year she worked in the Wright-Fleming Institute at St. Mary’s Hospital in London. Through medical school she participated in the first AIDS study in NY in conjunction with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). After completing her plastic surgery residency at NY Hospital-Cornell Medical Center, and aesthetic fellowship with Eugene Courtis, MD in Boston, she began her private practice in New Jersey in 1992. Over the next 25 years she raised 4 children, developed two patents in breast surgery, and contributed as a clinical investigator in over 10 clinical trials.
Dr. Glicksman became a member of the Aesthetic Society Education and Research Foundation (The Foundation) Scientific Research Committee (SRC) in 2015. The committee is tasked with the rigorous responsibility of reviewing research grants submitted from the Aesthetic Society members. After 5 years she became the Chair of the committee and set to reorganize the manner in which grants were reviewed to ensure a rapid turnaround. From 2018-2020 she attended Seton Hall Law School receiving a master’s degree in Pharmaceutical, Medical Device, and Compliance Law. Dr. Glicksman began serving on the Foundation’s Executive Committee in 2018 and was nominated to the presidency in 2022.
